Subsequently I met Mr. Ɛiew and asked him whether he
could get in touch with way of the Canton officials. Mr.
Fiew agreed to take Mr. Frack and the two lame to Canton.
A day or two later, I again met ur. Prack in the
Metropole Hotel at his request. Vr. .L. Lan was also
present.
Mr. Track stated that he was going to do everything
he possibly could to help China. If the Nanking and Canton
Governments could possibly settle their differences he would
probably be able to secure for China a loan of £25,000,000
at £* interest, provided satisfactory security was forth-
coming. He would also secure foreign experts to train the
Chinese armies in the use of the latest types of aircraft,
and of anti-aircraft work.
On Thursday, Kay 1th, I applied for two days' leave,
intending to go to Canton to get a good Chinese surgeon to
treat my son, who had dislocated his elbow a month before, and
had been treated by Chinese curgeons here without result.
I travelled up t› Canton on the Thursday night boat. I wont
alone, my idea being to find a good Burgeon firɛt, and bring
